You need to prepare it before the first use, but he said it was no big deal at all and he's made several of his favorite chinese dishes in it. It's a good size and very heavy duty. Mine came default working at 1TB so all I had to do was plug in and turn it on. Movies play perfect off of it but it is a little noisy (about as loud as a whisper).
